About
“There must be something strangely sacred in salt. It is in our tears and in the sea” (Kahlil Gibran)
SALT is essential for life, an intrinsic part of each of our beings, a preservative; a healing, cleansing, invigorating mineral; a sacred covenant. A unifying symbol of common use across societies, of significant potency, metaphorically symbolising new beginnings.
Presented in this programme is the work of three esteemed South African choreographers, Kirsten Isenberg, Mthuthuzeli November, and Michelle Reid, all with their distinctive voices.
The artists and creatives who form the CBA community are imbued with ballet and dance the way that salt imbues and supports our human existence. Dance and its creation are ephemeral by nature, transitory, representing moments in time. Dreamlike reveries bringing into existence internal narratives of the creator, chapters of lives embedded in kinetic sculptural movement, an immersive commitment to the creative process, a poetic, languorous, saffron andante, a suspension of two worlds as you rise from your body, carbon smoke... a suspension of airborne particulates. Ritualistic, spiritual, magical smoke.
Such is the nature of SALT
