About
Loren, a virtuoso accordion player and BMus student at the University of Cape Town, is redefining the
accordion’s role in classical music. This instrument, often associated with folk traditions, has been increasingly embraced by classical composers. Loren’s performance will highlight the accordion as a versatile classical instrument. The programme includes arrangements of popular classics such as Bach’s famous Toccata, several Scarlatti sonatas, and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, as well as original compositions written specifically for the accordion, such as Alexander Kholminov’s Suite for Accordion. This repertoire showcases the depth, variety, and brilliance of the classical accordion, offering listeners a fresh appreciation for this instrument.
