About the event
Reading: An Unsuitable Woman
Join us for a reading from An Unsuitable Woman, a compelling exploration of love, loss and the secrets that shape our lives.
Journalist Deborah Morsey longs for a fresh start after traumatic encounters with apartheid police, betrayals and failed relationships. When she meets Nick, a widowed sheep farmer, a whirlwind romance promises a different future.
Marriage, becoming stepmother to his daughter Sara, and opening a preschool for farm workers’ children bring renewed purpose. Forgotten love letters discovered in her grandmother’s desk awaken her romantic hopes. Yet disturbing memories and unanswered questions about the death of Nick’s first wife begin to unsettle her new life.
Visits to her cousin Abi in Grahamstown offer respite, until an encounter with human rights lawyer Sanjay challenges everything Deborah believes about love.
