Opening weekend 2017 – Music

24 March, 2017

Four diverse concerts, presented and conducted by Richard Cock, will make for an unforgettable musical experience. The weekend programmes range from the music of Mozart to Miriam Makeba, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Dolly Rathebe and then on to Broadway. The FynArts Festival Orchestra will accompany the soloists at each concert.
The 2017 Opening Concert on Friday 9 June is an all-Mozart orchestral concert. The not-to-be-missed programme includes, amongst others, the famous Concerto for Flute and Harp with the acclaimed duo, soloists Gaylen-Rose Sales (harp) and Bridget Rennie-Salonen(flute). Saturday evening, 10 June, offers something completely different with the fabulous Zolani Mahola and Adelia Douw, from Freshly Ground and the Delft Big Band respectively. They will captivate audiences in Divas of Swing.

On Sunday 11 June, there will once again be a matinee and evening performance – this year Broadway Spectacular will get foot-tapping audiences asking for more. Vanessa Tait-Jones, the first overall prizewinner of the ATKV Muziqanto classical singing competition in 2011, and George Stevens, Acting Director of the UCT Opera School, will join the FynArts massed choir for this celebration of some of the greatest musicals of all time, ranging from Oklahoma to Mamma Mia along with Lloyd Weber highlights and many more.
