The popular Wine Plus Series returns to FynArts this year, with a twist. With ‘Personality’ as the theme for these exciting and entertaining tasting sessions, expect to come face to face with the famous and colourful in the wine industry, and the wines selected by them for being beyond the ordinary.

Each presenter will offer six or eight wines of ‘personality’ – wines that reflect something personal, but also shine a spotlight on the state of the industry. Expect history, but also the cutting-edge. Come hear the stories, and taste the adventure of the now.

Among the names on the bottles: Mullineux, Boekenhoutskloof, Eben Sadie, David & Nadia, Kanonkop, Spioenkop, Radford Dale, Orpheus & the Raven, Le Sueur, Colmant, Dalla Cia, Delheim,Eikendal….

The not-to-be-missed series takes place twice daily at The Marine Hotel, with two subject-specific evening presentations.

SATURDAY 10 June

12:00 Pieter Ferreira is the country’s foremost expert of sparkling wine, and prize-winning cellar master for Graham Beck Wines. Want to know which MCCs have ‘personality’?

15:00 Duimpie Bayly has deep roots in the legacy of local wine as judge and expert. He knows the colourful stories and will show the wines, matching wit to wine.

17:00 About Méthode Cap Classique with Pieter Ferreira will provide an overview of the MCC producers’ association celebration of 25 years. He will also talk about bubbles, glasses and the future.

SUNDAY 11 June

12:00 Jan Boland Coetzee is a legendary winemaker and master of Vriesenhof. Ever inspired by the classics, he’ll demonstrate and talk terroir and all about the art of fine wine.

15:00 Rosa Kruger is the country’s pioneering “old vine” viticulturist whose passion has led to the documentation of the oldest vines. Rosa has inspired leading “young guns” to make wine true to their nature.

MONDAY 12 June

12:00 Ntsiki Biyela is a ground-breaking winemaker and judge who has shifted the cultural, gender and race definition of cellar expertise. Ntsiki will present top-end wines that charted and inspired her pioneering career.

15:00 Razvan Macici was the head winemaker of Distell until a few months ago and the great Nederburg brand is his contemporary legacy. He will show and discuss wines that define his place in the local industry.

TUESDAY 13 June
12:00 Christian Eedes is arguably the country’s leading wine appraiser in that he heads a series of wine category tasting competitions and gives daily ratings on in his blog in the on-line Wine magazine. Be assured that he is going to show stand-outs.

15:00 The Wine Critics’ Choice is now a firm favourite of Wine Plus. Wine critics, writers and judges are put on the spot to nominate one wine only and give reasons. Great fun, but also indicative of personality – both of critic and wine!

17:00 About Wine Ratings with Christian Eedes. Among the conversation points in his talk is the controversial 100-point judging system. And who’s to judge?
