A blend of art and wine

16 December, 2014

Hermanus FynArts celebrates the best in art and artisanal creations.

Eleven art galleries will each host an exhibition during the festival. You don’t need to wait for Hermanus FynArts before visiting these galleries that make up the Hermanus Art Amble, however. Better still, come to the monthly Hermanus First Fridays for late night browsing, shopping and socialising.  The Hermanus Art Amble in the centre of town links  eleven art galleries.  See our Venues Page for more about some of the galleries.

During the eleven days of  FynArts there are extra exhibition venues. These include the Old Synagogue, three hotels and the Cliff Path in the centre of town.  In addition, you will find wine tasting and art exhibitions at a number of participating wine farms along the Hemel en Aarde Valley.  One of the highlights of this participation is the tondi exhibition of  the finalists in the  Tollman Bouchard Finlayson competition. The circular art works are displayed on the heads of barrels that are filled with maturing and new wines made from grapes harvested a few months earlier, in late February and March. The number of tondi exhibited in the working gothic cellar doubled between 2013 and 2014. Next year the number will again increase and so will the length of time available to view the exhibition.
